Digital revolution which has been called the ‘third industrial revolution’ – is driving new ways of doing business often at the cost of traditional businesses. A recent report by Deloitte -‘Digital Disruption: Short fuse big bang?’, predicts that One-third of the Australian economy faces imminent and substantial disruption by digital technologies and business models. A case in point is UberX, the low-cost ride-sharing service has been legalised in NSW disrupting the taxi industry.
Digital disruption requires employees to have the capabilities and mindset to quickly learn and unlearn to keep with the pace of change. L&D often find themselves, willingly or unwillingly, supporting the increasing pace of Learning and are finding the traditional methods of delivering Learning unresponsive and slow. L&D professionals themselves in many cases have not acquired the skills to deliver results in this new environment. We discuss if L&D will step up or itself be disrupted by others who can provide the answers.
- Scott Dinsdale – Scott is the Media & Entertainment Lead, ANZ & APAC, Accenture & Senior Fellow of the Annenberg Center for the Digital Future. Scott has been a digital technology and media pioneer for over 25 years. An accomplished entrepreneur and musician, Dinsdale’s career include executive leadership roles at Sony, Bertelsmann, the MPAA, and Merrill Lynch. Scott is a member of the faculty of The Australian Film, Television & Radio School (Sydney).
- Kim Flintoff – Kim is the Learning Futures Advisor at Curtin University. Kim is a seasoned educator who has worked at all levels and sectors of education K-12, higher education, state, CEO and independent, locally, nationally and internationally. Kim’s Current work focusses include games and gamification in learning contexts, new platforms for collaborative global learning, challenge-based engagement, and big data strategies in the higher education sector.
- Jeevan Joshi – Jeevan is the producer of Learning Cafe and an experienced practitioner of technology-based learning and collaboration in Australia. He currently provides strategic Digital Learning advisory services to prominent Australian organisations such as Fairfax, Westpac and ARCS.
